Expression of Interest are invited for Mixed Methods Study to Understand the Demand for Health Professional Education The objective of this task is to understand factors influencing the demand for health professional education; for doctors and nurses; in two states in India. The overall aim of the study is to identify imbalances between aspirations of those entering the health workforce in the future; and the needs of the health education and labor markets. The study will focus on the following activities: 1. Understanding the perspectives pertaining to their choice of profession and location among aspiring; current and recently graduated medical and nursing students 2. Documenting the experiences of students during entry into/exit from the health education market into labor market and health system3. Measuring private; public; and social rate of return to education for medicine and nursing professions4. Understanding the institutional policies and perceptions of management/faculty relating to provision of high-quality education at selected medical/nursing teaching institutions The findings of the study will be disseminated widely; including through stakeholder workshops; especially with government counterparts and academic partners; as well as publications in peer-reviewed journals; if applicable; and policy briefs. They will be used to support the dialogue with central and state governments on innovative approaches to strengthen health education to better cater to population health needs while balancing a dynamic global and local demand/supply of health workers. For example; recommendations emerging from this study could help shape strategic investments in government education institutions. Additionally; they could advocate for policy-level changes; through state-specific HRH strategies developed; in cadre creation; career progression and retention; and other institutional mechanisms linking the education and labor markets.
