2) Developing the Value Chains of Non-Timber Forest Products for the Economic Transformation of Forest Dependent Communities
Non-timber forest products (NTFPs) play a crucial role in the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities in India. These products, ranging from medicinal plants to edible mushrooms, provide income, food security, and cultural significance for millions of people. However, NTFP value chains are often inefficient, fragmented, and lack access to markets. This hinders the economic transformation of forest-dependent communities and perpetuates poverty and environmental degradation.
The Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officers play a crucial role in the sustainable management and conservation of forests, including the promotion of economic growth within forest-dependent communities. This 5-day training course aims to equip IFS officers with specialized knowledge and skills in developing value chains for Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs), fostering economic transformation and community development.
