European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) was established in 1958 to ensure a regular and equitable supply of nuclear materials to its member states. Europe plays an important role in the nuclear medicine domain, supplying more than 60% of medical radioisotopes to the world market.

Founded by the six founding States, Euratom is a Luxembourg based agency which commenced its operations on 1 June 1960.
