Germany has been collaborating with India for over 50 years, delivering technical expertise through the organisations that now form GIZ. In alignment with India’s goals for sustainable and inclusive growth, GIZ currently focuses its efforts in India on the following key areas:

GIZ collaborates closely with partner ministries and agencies in India under implementation agreements signed between the Government of India and the Federal Republic of Germany. On behalf of its commissioning parties, primarily the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and others, GIZ enters into contracts and procurement in accordance with public procurement regulations.

To identify qualified service providers and suppliers, GIZ India conducts both open and restricted tendering procedures. Open tenders are published widely, including in newspapers and on official platforms (GIZ’s website and external tender portals), to ensure broad visibility and equal opportunity for all eligible bidders.
