Expression of Interest are invited for Scaling Artisanal Fisheries for Tuna, Tuna-Like Fisheries in Kenya.

Description: The assignment is important for increasing knowledge on the investments, policies and regulation, data, financial instruments, market, PPP options, institutional capacities needed to harness tuna resources. In addition, it will help in increasing engagement and awareness among different stakeholders in the government, fishers, and private sector partners and communities on the opportunities and challenges for the development of an in-country tuna fisheries. Besides, the study will contribute towards strengthening government capacities for the development of its tuna, SOP/Blue economy strategies to better access and manage tuna and nearshore fisheries resources. Furthermore, the study will offer the Government the needed information needed to engage the private sector or PPP investments for tuna catching, processing, and marketing and value chain opportunities for diversified livelihood options for coastal communities.

In furtherance of its commitment to comply with the IOTC on CMM, the study is expected to contribute to improved understanding in the government agencies (Kenya Fisheries Services and others) on the compliance requirements by IOTC on CMMs and the yellowfin interim plan and determine the current level of compliance. Also, the study will result in the provision of recommendations to improve Kenya compliance with IOTC CMMs and the interim yellowfin plan and increase transparency with the public, importantly enhancing capacity of Kenya to comply with IOTC resolutions, CMMs and the yellowfin tuna rebuilding plan.
