Tenders are invited for Rehabilitation, Upgrading and Expansion Works for Karonga Town Water Supply System.

1. The Northern Region Water Board (herewith referred to as a Client) was established under the Waterworks Act No. 17 of 1995 as a parastatal organization responsible for provision of water supply and waterborne sanitation services in the urban centers of the Northern Region of Malawi.
2. The Government of the Republic of Malawi has received financing from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) toward the cost of the Karonga Town Water Supply, and intends to apply part of the proceeds for this financing to payments under the contract for Rehabilitation. Upgrading and Expansion Works for Karonga Town Water Supply System.
3. The Northern Region Water Board now invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for the execution of the Rehabilitation, Upgrading and Expansion Works for Karonga Town Water Supply System.
4. The project consists of rehabilitating and upgrading of the existing Karonga Town Water Supply System situated in the Northern Region of Malawi. The project entails design and construction of raw water pipeline, treatment plant, water transmission pipelines, storage tanks, pump stations, distribution pipelines, auxiliary buildings and access roads.
The summary of the scope of works under the project consists of the following:

The Works to be undertaken include construction of several buildings involving the following works / operations:
1. Concrete; Masonry; Metals; Wood & Carpentry; Thermal and moisture protection; Openings; Finishes; etc.
2. Water tanks and Booster Stations
3. Plumbing & Fire-fighting installations; Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC).
4. Electrical installations.
5. Installation of: Communication equipment and cabling; Local Area Network Switching Equipment (LAN) and Public Address (PA) System.
6. Installation of Electronic Safety and Security system covering: Access Control System; Video Surveillance (CCTV) System and Fire Alarm System.
7. Earthworks involving excavation and backfilling works as well as access roads.
5. Interested eligible applicants may obtain further information from and inspect the Bidding Documents at the Northern Region Water Board (address below) from 07:30 to 16:30 hours local time from 22nd August 2020.
6. A complete set of the Bidding Documents in English may be purchased by interested bidders upon payment of a nonrefundable fee of MWK35, 000 or USS50 or in any freely convertible currency. The method of payment will be cash or bank certified cheque paid /deposited at the Northern Region Water Board cash office or bank electronic transfer. The Bidding Documents will be collected by the interested bidder at the Northern Region Water Board (address below) from 07:30 to 16:30hours.
7. Mandatory Site Visit which will be followed by a Pre-Bid Meeting will take place as follows:

8. Bids should be submitted in sealed envelopes, delivered to the address below on or before 9th October, 2020 at 14:00 hours Malawi time, and be clearly marked “Application to Prequalify for Rehabilitation, Upgrading and Expansion Works for Karonga Town Water Supply System” and must be accompanied by a security of Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars (USD500, 000.00).
9. Bids will be opened in the presence of bidders- representatives who choose to attend on 9th October, 2020 at 14:00 hours Malawi time at the offices of:

10. Bids shall remain valid for 120 days after the deadline for bid submission prescribed above.
11. This bidding will be conducted through international competitive bidding and it is open to all bidders from eligible source countries, as defined in the Bidding Documents.
