Construction work on the refinery will begin in the third quarter, to be ready in 2018. “The plant, which will use the latest production technology to produce the highest quality refined sugar, will have a capacity of one million tones of refined sugar per annum,” said Ashwin D Rana, CEO, OSRC.
The contract will be managed on behalf of OSRC by Bosch Projects of South Africa. This first sugar refinery to be established in Oman will generate employment for around 500 people and has a target for Omanisation of 92 per cent from 25 per cent in initial years.
