Renaissance awards $150 million worth contracts of SEZAD project Construction and Real Estate

Renaissance Services has awarded construction contracts costing $150mn (OR75mn) to four local contractors to carry out the first stage of a project to facilitate accommodation for workers in the Duqm Special Economic Zone (SEZAD).

The company selected PWA and Centre Point Engineering to undertake the design work for a Permanent Accommodation for Contractors facility arrangement of up to 16,000 beds for workers, last year.

Seven firms got shortlisted out of total fourteen firms submitted bids for different aspects.

Later on the firm recruited Deebaj for excavation and earthworks and an International Piling Experts/Geosol joint venture to bring out the piling. It has since finished 1,100 of the 1,600 piles required.

The firm has awarded two of the four main construction packages on a 50/50 split among Hajiry Trading (package 3A) and Services & Trade Company (package 3B) - part of the Sobha Group. The work will take two years to complete.

Renaissance Services further announced that $31.2mn (OR12mn) of work to be awarded within these packages, and that two more packages for a electrical works and sewage treatment plant tenders will be floated this year.

According to the Stephen Thomas, CEO, Renaissance Services - A professional, fair and transparent competitive tender process has been conducted to make sure that the contracting community knows they are competing on a level playing field for a beneficial opportunity. The lowest technically competent and compliant bidder will always bags the contract. At present the firm has $1.9 billion of assets on its books but by the time its Duqm project finishes this will reach $2.4 billion. The firm also mentioned that it is offering the opportunity to local community investors and Omani pension funds to spend in the development of facilities at SEZAD.

The accommodation is being facilitated for workers who will be situated at the Special Economic Zone being constructed around the redeveloped port at Duqm.
