The US Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., awarded Raytheon Company (RTN) a $235.5 million contract for Radar Digital Processor (RDP) kits to modify the combat-proven Patriot Air and Missile Defense System for the US and two partner nations.

This complete order production contract will provide important benefits to the US warfighter through:

a) Capability - Advanced target detection and recognition, amplified surveillance, and support of PAC-3 MSE missile.

b) Reliability - 40% rise in total radar reliability on account of increased Mean Time Between Failure.

c) Cost - Reduction in the number of battery replaceable units from 759 to 56, considerably reducing spares and maintenance expense over the life of the system.

The evolving risk of threats have resulted in continuous advancement in the Patriot technology, these RDP upgrades sets one more example for the same. In order to prioritize these developments all our 12 partners participate and funding them through the Patriot International Engineering Services Program. The work activities under the contract will be executed at Raytheon's Integrated Air Defense Center, Andover, Mass., assisted by a global team of Patriot system suppliers, commented, Ralph Acaba, vice president of Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business.
