The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences awarded MRIGlobal a new $63 million, 10-year contract to deliver analytical chemistry services for the National Toxicology Program.

The award costing $2.4 million is for the initial eight-month and is a continuation of services MRIGlobal has delivered since 1972 to the National Toxicology Program.

As per the contract, MRIGlobal will facilitate chemical procurement, handling, and analytical services in toxicology studies as allotted by the National Toxicology Program. The program analyzes chemicals that are found in consumer products like ingredients in foods, personal care products, nutritional supplements, prescription drugs, household cleaners, and lawn care products.

The MRIGlobal researchers studies chemicals for components that could results in cancer, genetic defects or immune system responses.

Roughly around 2,000 new chemicals are introduced into the consumer products we use daily, every year. The program facilitates an important public health function in analyzing the ill effects of these chemicals. MRIGlobal is highly esteemed to serve a vital role in safeguarding public health with the National Toxicology Program, says, Thomas M. Sack, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of MRIGlobal.

MRIGlobal has delivered constant assistance through nine contracts, seven directly with the National Toxicology Program and the Environmental Toxicology Program. In 1978, ahead of the formation of the National Toxicology Program, MRIGlobal delivered these same services through contracts with the National Cancer Institute. Nearly around 6,500 technical reports on more than 2,000 study chemicals for the program has been issued by MRIGlobal since 1972.

The program was curtailed due to the impact of sequestration, in late 2013. The NIH published a new request for proposal and led a re-competition for a new 10-year program. MRIGlobal is one of three firms delivering services to the program.

MRIGlobal will have a committed team of multi-disciplinary technical leaders, facilities, and state-of-the-art analytical equipment in Kansas City serving the program.

We are delighted to carry on our chemistry support for the National Toxicology Program. We are proud to receive a re-competition for this important work for the National Toxicology Program, one of our longest-running programs, says, Roger K. Harris, Ph.D., Associate Vice President and Director of Product Development and Repository Management.

This project has been financed in entire or in part with Federal funds from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services.
