Albuquerque-based EMCORE Corporation has entered into a new, long-term supply contract with Lockheed Martin Space Systems to design and build high-efficiency, multi-junction Coverglass Interconnected Cells (CICs) for Lockheed Martin’s satellite program needs. EMCORE's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility situated in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA will produce the solar photovoltaic (PV) cells.
EMCORE has been a provider of CICs for many earlier space missions featuring satellites and spacecraft designed by Lockheed Martin. The CICs to be supplied under this new long-term supply contract are based on EMCORE's latest generation ZTJ triple-junction solar cells. The research and development of years resulted in these advanced triple-junction solar cells for high-efficiency, multi-junction solar cell technology for Lockheed Martin and various other major aerospace companies, EMCORE emphasizes.
According to Dr. Brad Clevenger, Executive Vice President and General Manager of EMCORE's photovoltaics division - This recent contract with Lockheed Martin is one of the most substantial contract awards in EMCORE’s recent history and results from many years of productive cooperation between our two companies. The company is delighted to enter into this next phase of our relationship and focuses to powering Lockheed Martin’s next generation of programs for many years ahead.
Over 130 space missions have been powered by EMCORE solar cells or panels.
