Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has sealed a contract with a Skanska and Traylor Brothers, Inc. joint venture for the construction of the Regional Connector in down town Los Angeles, as well as awarded a design contract for as Metrolink double track project.

The $918 million-contract for the Regional Connector project comprises of the design and construction of a 1.86-mile (3-kilometer) double track light-rail transit subway in downtown Los Angeles with three new stations. Construction work will commence immediately and is likely to be accomplished in October 2020. Skanska USA Civil will engage its $574 million share in its second-quarter bookings, as per the company officials.

To finalize the design of a double track project from Raymer to Bernson along the Ventura County Line of Metrolink, a $6.5-million contract was awarded to J.L. Patterson & Associates, Inc. (JLP).

The Raymer to Bernson Double Track Project is based on the LACMTA-held right-of-way along the Ventura subdivision and it is part of the Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) corridor.

JLP will design 6.4 miles of second main line track to exclude the present single track congestion and finally improve travel duration, operational accuracy and station safety. Among other modifications being made are the construction of a second platform and pedestrian underpass at the Northridge Station, nine grade crossings to coordinate with present Metrolink design standards and the reinstatement of two railroad bridge structures. Once done, this network will constitute full double track from Burbank to Chatsworth.
