Veolia has been awarded by Hunter Water Corporation a contract to operate and maintain 25 of its water production and wastewater treatment plants in the Hunter region - New South Wales, Australia. This €193 million (AUD279 million) contract, which comes after a global tender process, is the largest ever awarded by Hunter Water and marks the first time operation and maintenance of its plants has been taken to tender.
Veolia will operate and maintain the plants which provides potable water and wastewater treatment services to over half a million individuals throughout six local government regions in New South Wales, under the period of eight year contract. The worldwide and unparalleled skills of Veolia in water operations will allow for the application of best-practice technologies, at the same time its also helping to relax cost pressures for local families and businesses.
Since past 20 years, Veolia has been present in Australia and operates more than 30 water production and wastewater treatment plants in Australia and New Zealand. The recent contract adds to Veolia’s active presence in the Hunter region, with Veolia setting tie-ups with some of the biggest compannies in the region including Tomago Aluminium, Eraring and Rio Tinto Coal.
Hunter Water is the largest state owned water utility in Australia, founded in 1880’s, which facilitates drinking water and wastewater services to 570,000 residents and customers in the Hunter region.
