Amman - The Contractors' Council criticized the government's decision to halt the implementation of renewable energy projects announced by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zwati.
"The union was surprised by the government's unwitting decision to suspend the implementation of renewable energy projects without the participation or notification of the syndicate," the union said in a statement. "The decision damages the union's employees financially and physically." The union stressed the need to "involve them before making any decision that violates the rights of contractors and their contractual obligations", in the interest of the rights of Jordanian contractors affected by this "decision that would not only damage the contracting sector, but extends to all sectors of the economy."
The union considered that the decision negatively affects the strategy of encouraging investment in the Kingdom, which is based on supporting the construction sector as an engine sector driving the knees and endeavors of economic and social development desired.
On the other hand, the union's council questioned the reasons for the rise in prices of cement and iron in the domestic market to record levels.
The union called on the government, represented by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, to "stop the manipulation of iron factories, cement companies and traders and to stop the unjustified increase in prices despite the significant drop in the prices of oil derivatives."
