The completion of the construction of the Medan-Binjai Toll Road in North Sumatra found a bright spot after the land acquisition was completed. Compensation for part of the land so far cannot be done because the land is occupied by residents and there are other parties who have certificates of ownership. Now it is agreed that residents will get 70 percent and 30 percent of the certificate holders from land compensation.

A total of 456 families occupying the land agreed with the mechanism. However, three of the nine certificate holders of the land did not yet agree with the distribution method.

"For those who disagree with this mechanism, we will leave consignment money to court," said Chairman of Land Procurement who is also the Head of the North Sumatra National Land Agency Regional Office Bambang Priono while attending compensation payments to some residents in Medan on Thursday (21 / 3/2019).

For the first stage, the government made payments to 52 families. Payments for other residents and parties that have certificates are targeted to be completed in the next month because they are waiting for administrative completeness.

The construction of the 16.8-kilometer Medan-Binjai Toll Road began in 2015. As long as 10.46 km of it, from the Helvetia Toll Gate to the Binjai Toll Gate, has been operating since 2017. However, the other 6 kilometers have not been connected due to land acquisition 1 5 km in Tanjung Mulia Hilir Subdistrict. In fact, the toll road connection connects the Medan-Binjai Toll Road to the 34 km-long Belawan-Medan-Tanjung Morawa Toll Road and 61.8 km Medan-Kualanamu-Tebing High. If it is already connected, the Medan-Binjai Toll will be connected to Medan City, Belawan Port, Kualanamu Airport, and Tebing Tinggi City.

Head of the Medan-Binjai Toll Road Project PT Hutama Karya Hestu Budi said it would start construction work on the land in April after residents received compensation and vacated the house. "We are targeting the end of this year the Medan-Binjai Toll Road to be fully operational," he said.

Meanwhile, in West Java, the connectivity of the southern region will be increased by building the south central lane. Increased connectivity is expected to erode the development imbalances in the region.
