Tender Details

Tenders are invited for Training and Coaching for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in Baidoa, Somalia.

The company operates in 120 countries worldwide and is headquartered in Bonn and Eschborn, Germany. GIZ has been operating in Somalia and Somaliland since 2015, in various sectors. GIZ projects and programs in Somalia are distributed across the regions in the country including the federal level (Mogadishu), and the member states (Jubaland, South West-Baidao, Hirshabelle, Puntland) and Somaliland, and are managed from GIZ-s office in Nairobi, Kenya.

For 3 decades, Somalia has been marked by war, violent clan conflicts and, since 2004, by terrorist attacks by the by the Islamic extremist group AI Shabaab, which also controls large parts of southern and central Somalia. Since the beginning of the conflicts in 1991, Somalia has had more than 3.6 million refugees, 2.6 million of them internally displaced, over 2 million have left the country.

In addition, Somalia is marked by recurring natural disasters, which influence internal displacement movements.

The Somalis have experienced many years of violence and existential fears and have little or no economic resources. Women and girls are particularly affected by gender-based violence.

Although official figures are lacking, a comparison with other crisis contexts suggests that majority of Somalis suffer from mild to moderate mental health problems. The extent to which the population can deal constructively with the experiences in a constructive way depends crucially on the support services, security and perspectives they receive.

According to a market assessment done by GIZ in Baidoa, there are no integrated mental health services provided in the community and the primary health care facilities do not have capacity to provide mental health to the community.

The GIZ project on Strengthening Resilience of Internally Displaced People, Returnees and Host Communities (SHIR) in Baidoa District, Somalia is working on improving psychosocial support service to increase the individual employability of the beneficiaries.
