Togo is facing major environmental problems characterized by the continuous degradation of natural resources (land, forests, water, etc.), leading to a drop in agricultural productivity and the weakening of eco-systems. This situation is largely attributable to the poor management of natural resources due to povertyUnsustainable production methods. Wood resources andbiomass, the main source of energy in Togo, are becoming scarce throughout the country. Reducing the supply of ecological services from forests and forest resources is a factor of land degradation, loss of biodiversity, shortage of wood, drying of forestareas and water bodies, regression of wetlands, etc. This has implications for land impoverishment, increased food and nutrition insecurity, loss of income for producers, and increased monetary and non-monetary poverty. To address the various challenges, the Togolese government, with technical supportUNDP, which has been implementing the pilot eco-village development initiative since 2014 with a view to integrated development at the local level. The strategy is based on the integration in the same approach of fight against poverty by strengthening the governance at the base, the preservation of the environment and natural resources.es, strengthening people's access to basic services and improving people's living conditions by using renewable energies.
