Deforestation in Sao Tome and Principe has increased dramatically over the last few years. This phenomenon is linked to various causes, including the encroachment of forest land for cultivation, the use of wood to produce charcoal as a domestic energy source, the planting of productive species such as olive palms and the felling of trees foronstruction.
