The Guinean judicial system has reflected since independence a certain limit on its capacity to cover the entire national territory. The challenges of justice continue to be how to find a way to make institutional justice effective and efficient. The Guinean judicial system faces two major concerns, in particular thedisinterest of the population with regard to justiceand the existence of a traditional parallel justice which supplants institutional justice. The origin of the project "Strengthening of the criminal chain and the fight against impunity in Guinea" is found in a request from the Presidency of the Republic of Guinea addressed to the Secretary General of the United Nations inSeptember 2012, on the reform of the justice sector, particularly in relation to the criminal chain. Following this, the Global Focal Point for Justice, Police and Prisons carried out several missions to Guinea in order to support the development of a systemic response to the reform of the justice sector in Guinea. The project aims to provide assistance to the GovtGuinean government to strengthen the justice sector reform process and produce short-term results in the fight against impunity and access to justice, especially for the victims; thus fostering citizens` confidence in justice and, in general, in state institutions by consolidating the rule of law.reinstated on December 18, 2017, the project was jointly implemented by the UNDP and the OHCHR and financed by the UnitedNations Peacebuilding Fund in the amount of USD 1, 700, 000.15. The expected results of the project were: Institutions of the justice system effectively implement sector reform; The performance of the cCriminal hatred is improved in the pilot ICTs of Dixinn, Kindia, Lab, Kankan and N`zrkor and in the courts of peace of the jurisdiction; Access to justice is improved inthe pilot area, in particular for the vulnerable, women, minors and detainees.
