BACKGROUND Wood energy (firewood and charcoal) accounts for more than 80% of all household energy used in Africa (FAO, 2010). Estimated at 19.8 million tonnes in 2000, consumption of charcoal in Africa increased to 21.7 million tonnes in 2002, an increase of about one million per year (FAO, 2003). These figures show thate households in African countries will depend for several decades on this form of energy to meet their daily needs (Arnold et al., 2006). In Togo, wood energy represents 75.5% of the national energy balance in 2017 (DGE, 2018). It is the fuel of choice for households for cooking food, heating water andns processing crafts (fish smoking, traditional catering, preparation of local drink and peanut oil, bakery, pottery, etc.). Overall, 50.4% of households use firewood against 40.2% who use charcoal as the main source of cooking energy (INSEED, 2016). Wood energy is therefore used by pl90% of Togolese households are the main cooking energy. Annual national consumption of wood energy, all categories combined, is estimated at 2.44 million tonnes / year, or 7.576 million cubic metersof wood, 82% of which (in volume) consumed by households and 18% by socio-professional categories (MERF, 2017). Scenarios indicatethat this total national consumption of wood energy would amount to 9.818 million cubic meters of wood in 2030 and to 14.285 million cubic meters by 2050. This strong demand for wood energy has a direct impact on the potential of Accordingto the first updated biennial report of Togo on the chaclimate change (PRBA, 2017), Togo`s net aggregate emissions are estimated at 27, 576.064 Gg CO2-e directly released into the atmosphere. These emissions come mainly from the AFAT sector (88%) and the energy sector (10%). The trend "without any measure" brings total emissions to 38, 861.36 Gg CO2-e in 2030, or 11.14%less if projects actSome mitigation measures are implemented. An additional -20% target has been set if additional funds are mobilized and new projec...
