Tourism and fisheries, the two main pi llars of the economy, are highly dependent on the countrys rich marine biodiversity and are central tostrategies for meetingthe goal of a blue economy. Fisheries account for a significant portion of gross domestic product but arealso of considerable soci al and cultural importance to the country.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture and SeychellesFishing Authority are the princi pal public institutions for the sector, overseeing policy, management, development, research andcapacity building, while fisheries legislation was recently modernised (Fisheries Act, 2014).
