Country: MAURITANIA Mission description: The Islamic Republic of Mauritania (RIM) has a varied and rich mining potential (including gold, salt, gypsum, zinc, uranium, oil, gas, copper, quartz and iron). The Country is a member of the Transparency Initiative ins Extractive Industries (EITI) since 2005, when it set up a National Committee composed of representatives of the government, the extractive sector and civil society. The mission of the Committee is to ensure the implementation of the principles and standards of the EITI in Mauritania, in the but to ensure that investments in the extractive industry ultimately contribute to poverty reduction and the development of the country. It is committed to regularly publishing extractive profits and royalties paid to government and industry, as well as to grassroots communitiess localities where these minerals are extracted.
