Job Description

Who we are

Background:

Population Services International (PSI) is a world’s leading non-profit organization.

We work to make it easier for people in the developing world to be healthy by providing access to products and services that range from birth spacing and treatment of disease conditions like pneumonia and diarrhoea to prevention interventions like water treatment and provision of insecticidal nets.

PSI is implementing a Demand Creation for Health Services programme funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) – SAHAN. The focus of this program is to increase community awareness of, and demand for, health services and promote appropriate maternal and child health behaviors.

Somalis are known as ‘A Nation of Poets’ as a result of their longstanding oratory tradition. Poetry is an important way of communicating complex, sensitive, or deeply human topics in Somali culture.

As a part of SAHAN programme, PSI is planning to launch Hiil Hooyo Poetry Competition. This will be an innovative poetry competition, where young Somali poets are challenged to bring their creativity into action by using poetry as a tool to address complex issues surrounding maternal health. This competition is expected to draw attention to the challenges mothers experience during pregnancy, child birth, and the postnatal period. Using poetry as a method for expressing empathy for the mother can be an effective way of increasing awareness and sensitizing to Somali communities on the support required by mothers during this period.

In line with this, PSI seeks to secure the services of renowned and recognized poets the will perform the role of judges for the poetry competition. The judges will also be involved as co-designers of the general operationalization and screening criteria of the poetry competition. If you have what it takes, you are kindly invited to participate in this intervention.
