Description : Context
In the framework of the CLEAR Cotton project: "Elimination of child labor and forced labor in the cotton, textile and clothing value chains: An integrated approach", co-financed by the European Union and implemented implemented in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Labor Organization (ILO) aims to contribute to the elimination of child laborts and forced labor in all its forms in the targeted producing countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Pakistan and Peru).
The project aims to strengthen the national legislative and regulatory frameworks to combat child labor while encouraging governments local authorities, public service providers and other relevant stakeholders (social partners, the private sector, civil society organizations, agricultural stakeholders, etc.) to carry out effective actions to stop child and forced labor in cotton producing districts and communities and in clothing / textile factories.
In Mali, the value chain of cotton, textiles and clothing is dominated above all by the production link, which is provided by 204, 089 agricultural holdings united in Cooperative Societies of Cotton Producers (SCPC).
