Purpose of the contract is the development, implementation and administration of a Biodiversity Innovation Fund, to support biodiversity-oriented measures in the production of bananas and pineapple. This fund is non-refundable and will be implemented through a tender. The contractor will prepare the tender in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. Small, medium and large-scale farmers will be asked to submit ideas for innovative measures for the integration of biodiversity criteria. After the tender the contractor will implement the measures together with the farmers through technical assistance, materials and equipment.
The Biodiversity Innovation Fund (BIF) is a key component of the program "From Farm to Fork", which is financed by the International Climate Initiative with support from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The BMU has commissioned GIZ to implement the overall project.
