81228124-Technical Cooperation with Kenia, Green Innovation Centres Dairy Value Chain
The global project "Green Innovation Centers for the Agriculture and Food sector" is part of the BMZ Special Initiative "One World — No Hunger" and aims at improving smallholders' incomes, increasing employment opportunities and improving the regional food supply in the rural target regions. The Green Innovation Centre in Kenya (GIC) is one out of 15 country packages at global level.
Main Site : Kenia.
The support measures of the dairy value chain project are to address the major bottlenecks of the dairy value chain in the Western Region: low productivity of dairy cows, mainly due to lack of knowledge in Good Husbandry Practices for dairy farming and lack of access to sufficient quality and quantity of fodder, especially in the dry season; and low milk quality. The support measures should lead to a substantial and sustainable increase of productivity of dairy cows in Western Region and thus to an increase of milk supply in the area. The support measures should as well improve milk quality and food safety for consumers.
The dairy project has to implement the following support activities:
— intensive and ATVET based training in state-of-the-art on good husbandry practices for dairy farmers,
— strengthening service orientation of dairy cooperatives in the Western Region and improving thus access of dairy farmers to required input and services,
— promoting commercial fodder production (fodder production as a commodity on its own) and improving thus access of farmers to sufficient quality and quantity of fodder, especially in the dry season. In this way employment opportunities for rural youth are to be created,
— improving milk quality and ensuring milk safety for consumers.
The major implementing partners of the project are the county ministries for agriculture, livestock and fisheries. Furthermore, the project is closely cooperating with dairy cooperatives, national and international research organizations, national dairy training institutions, and further private sector stakeholders of the dairy value chain in Western Kenya.
Evidance of commercial register entry.
Average annual turnover for the last 3 financial years (last-but-4 financial year can be included in case of Invitation to Tender held within 6 months of end of last financial year).
