INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANT, DISARMAMENT EXPERT UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) defines the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and their means of delivery in accordance with international peace and security. This resolution, adopted under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, imposes on all Statesthe obligation to prevent the proliferation of such weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery, but also to non-State actors, including through the establishment of appropriate legislation and national controls on arms, related materials and national controls materials to prevent their illegal traffic. healso encourages increased international cooperation in this regard.UNODA, through its WMDand its Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC), in close cooperation with the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004), have assisted African Member Statesto implement resolution 1540 and to comply with international instruments on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.It is envisaged that a consultant will be recruited to support UNODA's efforts to Member States in the areas covered by UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004)Objective of this mission Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director and under the direction of the Director-General of the United Nations Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC), the consultant will assist theCenter in effectively plan, implement, monitor and evaluate its activities, and report on activitiesrelated to Resolution 1540, including the implementation of the project entitled "Technical Assistance to African States Not Reporting Under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004)".
