REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS – COMPREHENSIVE IMMUNIZATION, MNCH & NUTRITION KAPS
BACKGROUND
In recent years Lesotho has made great strides in improving performance along the continuum of care for maternal, child health and nutrition indicators. However progress on immunizations has been rather slow. While deliveries by skilled health professional has increased from 55% in 2004to 78% in 2014; stunting levels have also gradually declined from 39% in 2009 to 33% in 2014 (2014 LDHS); Immunization on the other hand has not fared as well. Lack of continuity in utilization of services has been a major impediment resulting in only 3 out of 4 districts managing to reach 80% coverage of pentavalent vaccine. Due to the foregoing, the Ministry of Health recognises the need to undertake a KAPS study that will inform a communication strategy which will address the barriers to continuity, compliance and utilization of services to promote health seeking behaviours. The study will cover a wide range of primary health care interventions across the continuum of care (Immunization, ANC, PNC, Neonatal Under-five services.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The main purpose of this comprehensive KAPs will be to investigate factors influencing demand, continuity of utilisation, and compliance to services by communities. The study will also explore service provider’s perceptions on services they provide and attitudes towards communities they serve. The study will provide information intended to inform a comprehensive communication strategy. Furthermore, the results of the study will allow programming that is tailored more appropriately to the needs of the communities. The study will employ mixed qualitative and quantitative research approaches for investigating knowledge, attitudes and practices towards immunization, maternal, neonatal, nutrition and child health services. The approaches will entail: Cross sectional household Survey; Focus group discussions and community conversations and Health facility assessment, client exit interviews and quality of service. The consultancy will cover approximately 3 months from 1st November 2016 to 3rd March, 2017 following a formal agreement and signing of the contract.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF CONSULTANCY
Specific objectives of this knowledge, attitude and practices survey consultancy are as follows:

To investigate barriers, causes and solutions in relation to immunization, maternal (antenatal and postnatal care) neonatal care, child health and nutrition in the three districts namely Mokhotlong, Qacha’s Nek and Berea.

To assess communication channels, networks and processes that are appropriate in promoting health care services in communities around the three districts above.
