Tender Details

In March 2016 the Standards Council was disestablished and standards development and access functions were brought into MBIE as the New Zealand Standards Executive under the Standards and Accreditation Act 2015. The policy objectives which underpinned the change were responsiveness to users, more timely development and maintenance of standards, maximising contribution to the economy (trade, productivity, health and safety), and a financially sustainable operating model.

Standards New Zealand has developed a new business strategy in support of these policy objectives and to position the organisation to achieve its vision to be a world leading and innovative national standards body working to grow New Zealand for all.

The strategy recognises that the international standards landscape is rapidly changing in response to globalisation and digitisation, and our customers have changing needs and expectations.

Our response to meeting this challenge is to work to enable easier access to standards in a digital world. One of the ways we will do this is by enabling innovative new value-add products and services that customers want to use and which will better meet their needs for using and implementing standards.

These `value-add` products or services would be designed, created and brought to market by the third-party, under contract and licensing arrangements with Standards NZ. The products or services would provide customers with recognisable additional value over the traditional copy-of-the-document model of access.

The following examples identify value-add products and services in other industries:

• The AliveCor KardiaBand for Apple Watch paired with artificial intelligence technology can non-invasively detect high potassium levels in the blood and atrial fibrillation.

• ManageMyHealth is an online service that allows users to access and maintain medical records, book appointments, request repeat prescriptions and view lab test results.

• Windy is weather radar, wind and waves forecast for kiters, surfers, paragliders, pilots, sailors and anyone interested in the wind.

• Air New Zealand mobile app allows users to manage their travel plans on the go including real time flight information, phone becomes a ticket, online check-in, notifications, and Airpoints balances.

Standards NZ retain ownership for New Zealand standards and manage copyright with some territory obligations; for joint and adopted international standards.
