The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is the private sector arm of the World Bank Group (WBG). Its mission is to promote sustainable private sector investment in developing and transition countries, helping to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. IFC finances private sector investments in the developing world, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and risk mitigation services to businesses and governments. The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) provides Climate Finance investment and advisory services to financial institutions (FIs) to help them set up and/or expand lending to projects in energy efficiency, renewable energy, green buildings, green cities and climate-smart agriculture, among other thematic areas. These projects help corporates, SMEs and households to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improve access to clean energy solutions, and enhance resilience against climate impacts. Also, the Government of Costa Rica (GoCR), in collaboration with the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Renewable Energy Integration Program (REI), aims to accelerate the decarbonization of its economy by promoting the electrification of energy uses in key sectors such as transportation and industry. The electrification of industrial processes is a critical component of Costa Rica-s National Decarbonization Plan (PNdD) and its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.The industrial sector in Costa Rica accounts for 21% of the country-s energy demand and generates 8.9% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The replacement of fossil fuel-based industrial equipment, such as boilers and heat pumps, with electric alternatives is a priority for achieving Costa Rica-s decarbonization goals.
