Description : BACKGROUND
Antimicrobials are important medicines to treat infectious diseases in humans, animals, plants and crops. However, there are growing levels of resistance to these medicines worldwide. Considering this threat, the World Health Assembly adopted the WHO Global Action Plan on AMR (2015) which outlines five strategic objectives to guide national responses to AMR.
Countries are expected to develop a multi-sectoral National Action Plan (NAP) for AMR which addresses these objectives, including establishing a governance mechanism. Five PICs (Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea & Tonga) have launched national action plans on AMR and an additional seven (Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Solomon Isla...
