Tender Details

The Gisborne District Council and Ngati Oneone (referred to collectively as "The Partners") have partnered to develop the summit of T?t?rangi (Te Taumata o T?t?rangi). The T?t?rangi summit is a key part of the Tair?whiti Navigations program which is a regional body of work focusing on the development of heritage stories to enhance tourism, develop historical awareness and build the national profile of the Tair?whiti region.

This project will rebalance the cultural narrative through stories of arrival and survival which predate James Cook by at least 750 years.

To achieve the desired benefits, a joint venture between Ngati Oneone, Gisborne District Council (Council) in conjunction with our funder Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has been formed to realise common aspirations for Titirangi maunga and Tair?whiti. Together we will act reasonably, honourably, and in good faith to deliver our agreed vision for this sentinel maunga. This partnership embodies the principles of manaakitanga (reciprocity and mutual benefit), with the aim to connect the summit and the base of Titirangi as it once was.

Through sustainable design, high quality cultural architecture, place making and innovative heritage interpretation, the ideal outcome will use themes developed by Iwi that acknowledge and celebrate the historical significance of the area whilst seamlessly blending into its environment.
