Tenders are invited for Undertake "Onion Value Chain Analysis in Adadle Woreda, Somali Region" for a Project Entitled "Strengthening Rural Value Chains in Somali Region, Shebelle Zone, Adadle Woreda, Ethiopia" Funded by Giz

Objectives

Identify and map all value chain actors and their roles (input supply, production, storage, distribution, marketing stages) for Onion in Adadle woreda and beyond.
Identify gaps (core function, supporting function and rules & norms) contributing to the poor performance of the onion value chain.
Assess the financial, economic, and environmental feasibility of onion farming in Adadle woreda Identify new and existing market opportunities for onion and develop intervention strategies for Adadle woreda
Suggest scale of operation for small holders based on cost-benefit analysis
Assess potential risks of onion production, storage, distribution, marketing, input supply etc
Analyze existing policies and strategies that support strengthening rural value chain activities and present areas for improvement
Identify and analysis of key onion production and marketing constraints and suggest possible recommendations
Identify potential financial service providers and means of operation to support the onion value chain.
Recommend feasible options to support the most vulnerable groups such as women, people with disability, and children in the onion value chain.
Recommend intervention strategies to both the supply and demand side bottlenecks for the onion value chain.
Minimum requirements

a. Profile of consulting firm

The consulting firm must have undertaken similar works in Ethiopia
Demonstrable experience (5 years and above) in undertaken value chain assessment on onion and similar crops.
Ability to meet deadlines and respond to requests and feedback provided timely and appropriate.
Excellent track record in undertaking detailed value chain study
Familiarity with international quality and accountability standards applied in development cooperation.
Experience in high-quality report writing and presentation (5 and above recommendation letter).
b. Lead consultant and team Composition

The lead consultant must have an advanced degree (MSc and above) in the field of crap production, horticulture, agricultural economics
The proposed team must include professionals from the field of Crop production, Horticulture, Agriculture, and Agronomist senior experts with BA degree and above.
Relevant degree and 5 years' experience related to the assignment to be undertaken;
Understanding of donor requirements and having prior experience of GIZ
Experience in working with INGOS and development projects is an asset.
