UNHCR conducts registration and identity management activities for asylum seekers and refugees on a continuous basis, including renewal of UNHCR asylum seeker and refugee certificates. This includes ensuring all changes in biodata and changes in family composition are accurately recorded and verified by relying on individual identity documents.Bahirka Registration Center is a centre constructed by UNHCR to provide services for refugees, for registration, renewing the refuge certification, and providing legal support to the POCs. This centre is located in the Bahirka sub-district - of Erbil Governorate. KR.The new registration centre functioned in March of 2023 as a one-stop shop for protection and assistance activities. In addition to UNHCR registration staff, it will house three governmental departments integral to the registration process, allowing the whole process to be done during one visit.The centre will serve directly the 125, 000 refugees living in Erbil - 50 % of the total living in Iraq - and provide counseling and other support to the 230, 000 internally displaced persons living in Erbil.
