Selection of a local organization to support women's entrepreneurship in agricultural sectors in Haiti
Agriculture is the sector that employs the most people in Haiti, with 40% of households engaged in agricultural activity and about 75% of rural households engaged in some form of agriculture such as fishing or beekeeping. Only one-third farms in Haiti are managed by women, while women represent 44.2% of the workforce.e agricultural. Most of their agricultural production is for sale, highlighting not only the potential for agricultural production and processing in Haiti, but also the fact that women's production is market-oriented. Indeed, among the farmers whose production is mainly intended for self-consumptionsubsistence agriculture, women represent only 27.7% and men 71.9%. However, women farmers and small agro-entrepreneurs are often left behind and their contribution to national economy is rarely recognized, valued and rewarded. Unequal distribution of services between urban and rural areas and difficultiesAccess to public services, both physical and economic, tends to increase the weight of health care work for women living in rural areas.
