I.ContextDue to the passage of Hurricane Mathieu on October 4, 2016, many residents of Jrmie reported an upsurge in violence. Although difficult to substantiate with data, this perception is related to increased socio-economic vulnerability in general. Women and young women in particular are one of the groupsmost exposed to violence. Indeed, violence against women appears to increase in times of crisis and disasters when men`s sense of control is diminished and protective capacities are reduced. The predominance of gender beliefs and stereotypes that perpetuate gender inequality is considered by the associations of women in the area as one of the causes of violence against women in Jeremiah. The hurricane, which has also caused extensive damage to housing and agricultural production, has led to a significant displacement of people from rural areas to the main city of the Department of Grand`Anse. The absence of formal party spacesinvolvement of young women and men in the political life of the city and the lack of public spaces, instruments and platforms for dialogue and the peaceful transformation of conflicts between the different social actors only weaken the link already precarious, between the institutions of Jeremiah and his youth. A deficit is found in Jeremieaccess to discourses conducive to a culture of peace and the prevention of violence, whether in schools or through community media. There is a certain generational conflict and a poor image of Jeremiah`s youth, often perceived as victims or instigators of violence but rarely as aggression.The IOM, UNDP and UN Women joint project, financed by the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), intervenes precisely following the observation of a resurgence of violence., especially in terms of assaults and attempts to rape, after the passage of Hurricane Mathieu, the 4 octo2016, which had heavily affected the Department of Grand`Anse in general and the city of Jrmie in particular.
