Dumfries and Galloway is a county in south west Scotland. It is approximately 6600 square km in size and has a population of around 150, 000. It borders Ayrshire and Lanarkshire to the north, Scottish Borders to the east and England to the South. It also has a significant coastline to the south and west.Dumfries and Galloway is split into four operational areas, from west to east: Wigtownshire incorporating Stranraer, Wigtown & Newton Stewart; Stewartry incorporating Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbright; Nithsdale incorporating Dumfries, Thornhill and Sanquhar; and Annandale & Eskdale incorporating Annan, Lockerbie, Langholm and Moffat.Dumfries and Galloway Council (DGC or the Council) has introduced a new waste strategy in response to recent changes to some waste legislation by the Scottish Government (SG). To facilitate the new waste strategy, significant investment in building and plant infrastructure is underway. One element of the new infrastructure is the Small Particle Treatment Facility.Dumfries & Galloway Council are in the process of commissioning a turn-key Small Particle Treatment Facility (SPTF) in Dumfries, processing 7, 900 tonnes per annum of waste. The proposed facility will sort an 8 to 20mm Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) fraction that has been processed through the existing Dumfries Ecodeco Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facility. The equipment is being purchased from our technology provider based in Germany and will be operated by the Council following commissioning. This facility is a steel clad shed with dimensions of 21 metres high, 50 metres wide and 50 metres length which will contain equipment utilising technology from mineral, recycling and food processing applications to form a bespoke recycling facility.
