Chizuma project site, located at -12.859272, 34.097194, and Chasombo project site located at -12.859272, 34.097194, are in Nkhotakota District in the Central Region of Malawi along the Bua River. The project sites have estimated capacities
of 40.4MW each with an equal discharge rate of 40m3 /s, with Chizuma having a head of 108m and Chasombo with a head of 113.6m.
An alternate option (“New Chasombo”) explored combining Chizuma and Chasombo into one power plant with an aggregate capacity of 83MW and a discharge of 40m3 /s.
