Description : The EirGrid Generation Capacity Statement 2021 (GCS) has identified that, if no action is taken, a significant electricity capacity deficit would develop in the coming five years. This has resulted in the development of a Security of Supply Programme of Work, incorporating the technical advice of EirGrid, comprising of a range of measures which will address this supply and demand deficit. Workstreams include the provision of temporary emergency generation; the retention of existing generation, otherwise due to retire; the delivery of enhanced demand side response; and enhanced delivery of generating capacity through the Capacity Remuneration Mechanism (CRM) of the Single Electricity Market (SEM) inter alia.
