Invitation to prequalification for the canadian pacific robotic ocean observing facility (c-proof) is a state of the art facility that will revolutionize understanding of the ocean. Ocean change, its potential for life, and its potential as a source of energy are still poorly understood largely because of a lack of data. In part, the project will help to move remote coastal communities and the country as a whole towards carbon-free energy sources by exploiting ocean wind, waves and tides as inputs to innovative and sustainable energy systems. In support of research and development of such ocean energy systems, c-proof will deploy oceanographic data acquisition system (odas) mooring arrays with innovative floating instrumentation packages (e.g. Buoys) capable of measuring ocean winds, waves and tides with unprecedented fidelity.
the c-proof buoys will compliment an existing fleet of 5 odas buoys that are already operated by uvic through a partner research initiative - the pacific regional institute for marine energy discovery (primed).
