Expression of Interest are invited for International Visitor Survey (Ivs) in Papua New Guinea.
The Organization: The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, pursues its mission of reducing poverty and improving peoples lives by promoting sustainable private sector development through investment and advisory services.
The Program: IFCs Pacific Tourism program works to increase tourist arrivals for the Pacific, by identifying and investing in new tourist source markets as well as by working with the industry and National Tourism Offices to improve the tourism offer. Market growth is a prerequisite to attracting additional investment into the Pacific tourism sector.
The assignment: The conduct of an International Visitor Survey (IVS) will establish a baseline for visitor expenditure in the tourism sector in Papua New Guinea, by market segment. In addition, insights on consumer behavior, profile and preferences from the IVS can help to guide the marketing strategy for tourism in the future as well future investments by tourism businesses. IFC will work on this in coordination with the government.
The objectives of this assignment are to:
(1) Implement an International Visitor Survey, preferably online in Papua New Guinea by collecting direct data from visitors, analyzing this data and providing reports to IFC and the government/private sector stakeholder on the results on a regular basis. It is expected that the reports will be provided quarterly and then an overall annual report. Also, after IFC`s feedback is incorporated and each report is finalized, the reports will be shared with the stakeholders in country. This would involve in country visits and meetings.
(2)Train in-country stakeholders on conduct of the IVS to ensure smooth flow and continuity. It is expected that about 3-4 training sessions would be conducted in all based on the need of apacity building.
The focus of the IVS should be on gathering demographic and expenditure data from visitors, in order to establish the drivers and influences on spending, as well as patterns of spending of various market segments. Focused questions on assessment of visitors experience should also be included to test for the influence of quality of experience on spending patterns. The IVS should be representative (allowing extrapolation to the population of visitors to Papua New Guinea over the course of a quarter/year, including by market segment).
It is estimated the Consultant will start work in October 2016, subject to the duration of the selection. The assignment will be for 18 months.
