CLOSING DATE AND TIME: Mar 18, 2024 22:59
The World Bank Kenya is hiring the services of a consultant (firm) to undertake an assessment of mangrove ecosystems through generating primary data for increasing knowledge on the role of mangroves for sustaining priority fisheries for local communities in five coastal counties (Kwale; Mombasa; Kilifi; Tana River; and Lamu) and increase resilience of these coastal areas in Kenya. These Terms of Reference (ToR) describe the context of the engagement and specify the roles; responsibilities and expected deliverables of the consultant team or individuals. The consultant will participate in all aspects of the research design; implementation; data analysis and dissemination of results. On the major technical and implementation issues; the consultant is expected to work independently and to engage with a wide range of stakeholders at the World Bank and Government of Kenya. This consultancy; funded by PROBLUE[1] will require travel to a select number of coastal counties in Kenya to undertake research activities and share results. [1] PROBLUE is an Umbrella 2.0 program administered by the World Bank-s Environment; Natural Resources and Blue Economy Global Practice (ENB) dedicated to helping client countries transition to a Blue Economy approach and seeks to achieve integrated and sustainable economic development for healthy oceans. The PROBLUE program comprises a multi-donor trust fund and is organized around four pillars: 1) Improved fisheries governance and sustainable aquaculture; 2) Marine litter and pollution management; 3) The blueing of oceanic sectors; and 4) Integrated seascape management. Reflective of the Bank´s commitment to addressing gender equality; gender is considered a cross-cutting topic in the PROBLUE program. This has made it possible to integrate comprehensive responses to the gender-challenges faced in the ocean economy sector. For more information see: World Bank; 2021.
