The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking offers for implementing Phase 2 of the building climate resilient and environmentally sustainable healthcare facility (CRESHCF) project in PNG.BACKGROUNDClimate change is a cross-cutting development issue for Papua New Guinea. It affects all sectors and requires a whole-of-government approach to building resilience especially in the health sector and has been presented in a number of the country-s development and climate change priorities. PNG-s second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) submitted to the UNFCCC sets out targets and identifies measures and actions to be pursued towards achieving these targets. For the health sector, the ambitious plan and target is to ensure “100% of the population benefits from improved health measures to respond to malaria and other climate-sensitive diseases in PNG”. In 2021, the Climate Change and Health multisectoral assessment team led by the National Department of Health in collaboration with the Climate Change Development Authority piloted the “WHO Climate Resilient and Environmentally Sustainable Health-Care Facilities” (CRESHCF) toolkit.
