The objective of this study is to assist Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) to assess the needs for power system flexibility including energy storage and balancing services over the planning period up to 2050. The assessment will determine the optimum size, characteristics, location and timing of the required energy storage and balancing resources in BiHs power system. These requirements will be linked to the retirement of coal power plants and commissioning of new power generation capacity, which is expected to be dominated by wind and solar PV energy, and will include frequency and voltage control (e.g., reactive power which needs to be provided locally).
