Business Joensuu Oy acquires an expert service for the development of airspace, radio frequency and operating arrangements for UAS/drone operations at Kitee Airport. The goal of the procurement is to prepare an operating model that meets the authority's regulations, which makes it possible safe, predictable and internationally competitive testing, development and demonstration of unmanned aerial vehicles in the Kitee area. The assignment includes an analysis of the current situation, the preparation of official procedures and permit applications, proposals for airspace and radio frequency arrangements, operating model and risk analysis, and comparison with the OuluZone-type test area model. As the end result of the work, the customer will be delivered Finnish-language material, based on which UAS test operations in the Kitee area will be conducted can be taken towards the goal. The acquisition will be implemented as part of Borderland Europe managed by Business Joensuu Oy. Digital border security - Living Lab project, which has received ERDF funding from the North Karelia Provincial Union. The project implementation period is 1 October 2025 - 31 December 2027.
