SHORT TITLE OF ASSIGNMENT
Support for visibility efforts related to Children on the Move (COTM) activities.
BACKGROUND
Children on the Move is a cross-sectoral programme of UNICEF Egypt which seeks to respond to all categories of migrant and refugee children in Egypt, including Egyptian children at risk of irregular migration. There has been a growing urgent need at the global level for humanitarian actors and governments to sharpen their focus on the issue of children undertaking migration, both forced and voluntary, with their families or alone, across international borders and within their own countries. Since 2013, the countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have been facing large-scale mixed migration flows through and from the region. The journey itself is dangerous and at times lethal, and children constitute a significant percentage within these mixed migration flows. These children face both vulnerabilities and opportunities along their journeys and in countries of destination. Children on the move to, through and from Egypt have multiple reasons for migrating some are in search of safety and security, some are rejoining family members, others are pursuing new opportunities. UNICEF Egypt has been working with Children on the Move since 2012, when the arrival of Syrian refugees in Egypt prompted UNICEF to adapt its programming to respond to the crisis. UNICEF's unique mandate of protecting children's rights positions the agency to work with all children on the move, regardless of their nationality, legal status, or refugee status.
The role of Communication is critical in UNICEF Egypt's programming on COM in ensuring that the programme response is highly visible and that UNICEF messaging on COM is consistent and in line with the UNICEF Egypt Children on the Move Strategy and UNICEF global positioning on the issue. External communications play a strong role in representing diverse communities of Egypt, showcasing UNICEF's work on COM, and supporting external messaging in relation to migration.
