Public competition `Use of the Mauritshuis as a visitor center`

In the period 2019 2021, the Mauritshuis will be fully furnished as a visitor center for the Stelling van Willemstad, part of the Zuiderwaterlinie. The aim is to furnish the Mauritshuis with contemporary, interactive exhibitions that tell the stories ofmake the Stelling van Willemstad, the Zuiderwaterlinie, Willemstad and of course the Mauritshuis itself experienceable. This will give the Mauritshuis an important tourist function that is expected to attract more visitors to the Mauritshuis and entice visitors to visit the rest of the Stelling van Willemstad and the Zuidwaterlinie. The purpose of this public competition is to help entrepreneurst to come up with a creative solution for the interpretation of the Mauritshuis as a multifunctional visitor center. The concept plans and designs that are judged as the three (3) best solutions by the jury go on to the next phase; negotiation procedure without announcement

The Mauritshuis has approximately 540 m presentationspace and consists of, among other things, the Mayor Room, the Governor Room and the Council Room, next to the central hall. The brigadier house on the ground floor (accessible via a separate corridor), the Canon room and the attic are not part of the assignment.
