Acquisition of the National Pass

In November 2018, the current agreement for the production of the National Pass will expire by operation of law. Given the broad use within the national government, it is essential that the issuance and service provision of national passes is guaranteed in continuity. The Rijkspas is a multifunctional smart card for the Dutch governmenteid. The pass is used as an access means, authentication tool and interdepartmental identification. In addition to physical access to premises, the pass can also be used for access to the work environment, printers and other systems.

Core departments and a large number of implementing organizations are using the government pass and it is also expected to take the next few yearsnumber of new Participants steadily increasing.
Over 400 000 passes have been issued during the term, of which around 160 000 are currently in active use. Every new working relationship receives a personalized pass and there are also passes intended for visitors, temporary employees and suppliers. The active passes are replaced every 5 years.
