LEE831C — RFT — Provision of a Cellular Communications Mobile Private network (MPN) and Collaboration Testbed

Confirm has recently secured funding to develop a new 1 600 m R&D facility in Limerick`s Digital District. The Centre is also ramping up R&D activity relating to the development of high-speed networking and human machine interactions and applications. The Centre foresees that 5G networks have the potential to become the dominant communication platform of the `factory of the future`, providing the means to:

Confirm has recently secured funding to develop a new 1 600 m R&D facility in Limerick`s Digital District. The Centre is also ramping up R&D activity relating to the development of high-speed networking and human machine interactions and applications. The Centre foresees that 5G networks have the potential to become the dominant communication platform of the `factory of the future`, providing the means to:

• deliver the increased bandwidth requirements to accommodate ever more `connected` equipment;

• handle the increased data volumes transmitted across the factory floor;

• provide the millisecond latency needed for real-time remote control of robotics and AI enabled inspection and process monitoring.

Thus, a key element of the new confirm R&D facility is the provision of a 5G communications Mobile Private Network (MPN) and collaboration testbed that enables research in next generation manufacturing concepts and provides confirm and its partners with the core tools to develop a range of smart technologies for the IOT and communication industries based on 5G.
