Description : BACKGROUND
The Pacific island of Tokelau has one of the highest adult tobacco use rates in the Pacific with 62.4% of males and 59.3% females (according to 2014 NCD STEPS Survey). In November 2016, the General Fono of Tokelau (parliament of Tokelau) passed the 'Tokelau Smoke Free-2020' and a key strategy of the Tobacco Control Policy is to "increase motivation among people to quit smoking (including provision of cessation services)."
The Ministry of Health has trained public health assistants to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use to reduce demand for the deadly products and now seeks to develop tobacco cessation services to support those motivated to quit using tobacco. Further, national tobacco cessation and dependency plan have been developed.

The purpose of this activity is to support the implementation of tobacco cessation services in Nukunonu, Tokelau.
